A good soldier is always prepared. They know their role and stay away from anything that will hinder them in battle. As they await orders from their commander, they are always training to improve their skills and knowledge. As a follower of Jesus Christ, you are a soldier in His army. Prepare your mind for action and keep sober.
1 Peter 1:13
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Called to be Holy
We are called to be holy. Holiness is the embodiment of who God is. He is perfect and without defect and wants His children to be the same way. We won’t obtain that this side of heaven, but He will draw us closer through His sanctification program. Too many Christians like to see how close they can live to the dark side of the world and still keep our life intact with God. That only results in failure.
Fix Your Hope
Peter tells you to prepare your mind for action and to keep a sober spirit. That means that part of the holiness process relies upon you. You have to desire to be like God and do everything in your power to ready yourself. At the same time, you need to fix your hope, not on how good you can be, but on the grace of Jesus Christ. That grace is your doorway into holiness. The grace transforms you, and then you work to rid your life of that which trips you up.
Prepare Your Mind for Action
The spiritual battle is won and lost in your mind. Keep your mind alert by filling it with the word of God and sober by refraining from anything that will cause us to stumble. If you do stumble, go to the well of mercy because it never runs out. Then you will be refreshed and renewed and ready to go back into the battle.
