There is a lot of false humility out there today. People act like they are for the rights of others but are really in it for themselves. In a day where there are heightened tensions, there needs to be more humility. We need to regard others as more important than ourselves. It the attitude that Jesus modeled, and we should follow it as well.
Philippians 2:3
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;”
Desperately Needed Counsel
I can’t think of ay words that are more needed today than these. Regard others as more important than yourselves. There is a whole lot of selfishness going on and not very much humility. It is especially true when it comes to our opinions. Just because you can share it doesn’t mean you should. If it is going to offend or upset someone else, keep it to yourself, or better yet try to see the other side.
The Cancer Killing the Church
Selfishness can be cancer in the church. People will often use the pulpit or stage to fulfill their narcissism or need for approval. If we have the Holy Spirit living and working in us, our desire should be to glorify God and serve the saints. In humility, we are to teach and minister because their soul could be on the line. If we make it about ourselves, we start to judge others for not measuring up. If you struggle with that Pray that God will break you of it. It is a cancer that is killing the church.
Regard Others as More Important
Right after this verse, it tells us to have the same mind and attitude of Christ, and then it goes on to list how he lived that out. He didn’t come as the King that He is but as a lowly servant and offering his life upon the cross. He never looked to His fame but instead did the will of His Father. That is the example we are to follow.
