Return to me. God often sends that message to us when we have lost our way. We’ve all gotten lost and refused to seek help. Maybe you went a direction you knew wasn’t right but did it anyway. Getting lost doesn’t have to be a bad thing. We get stuck when we Refuse to turn back and seek help. Israel had wandered off and forgotten what was important. What made it worse was that they refused to make it right.
Zephaniah 2:3
Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger
Humble Yourself
God was continually calling Israel back to Him. They would chase after idols, become arrogant in their prosperity, and become very lax when it came to the law. God used men like Zephaniah to call them repentance. The message is often the same as other prophets. Return to Me, turn from your idols, and humble yourself.
Resist Your Pride
Too often we end up in a place we shouldn’t be. Usually, it is by our own doing. Instead of admitting our mistake we get defensive. When humility is needed to resolve our dilemma, we resort to pride. When we choose pride and stubbornness over righteousness and humility, we walk out from underneath God’s shelter. Return to Jesus and let him cover you with his love.
Listen to the Spirit
Fortunately, God uses men and women anointed by Him to call us back to Him. They speak through the power of the Holy Spirit and through God’s Word to get us the message. Return to me. Seek his righteousness and humility.
We need to listen. If you will turn to him, he will respond and create in you a clean heart.
