Medical professionals amaze me. They can deal with trauma to the body in a calm manner while assessing our emergency. Doctors are able to take hearts that stopped beating and bring them back to life. Did you know that God can revive a hard heart? No medical professional can do anything for that hardness of our heart, but God can transform it from stone into flesh.
Ezekiel 11:19
“And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,”
Hard as Stone
This is one of the greatest verses in the Bible. Ezekiel is talking to the Israelites, but he might as well be talking to us. This verse shows us what God wants to do in each of us. The Jews had grown cold in their faith. There was no life in their hearts, and so they had become as hard as a rock. God was showing them what He was capable of doing and what He was going to do to this rebellious nation.
Detect the Source
We can let our hearts become hard. Numerous reasons would cause it to get in that state. The key is recognizing when our heart gets that way how to change. If sin caused it, then we need to repent. If bitterness caused it, we need to forgive. If we have chased after idols such as money, we need to tear those down. Then God can change our heart and pour in His Spirit.
Revive a Hard Heart
God can revive a hard heart. He can make it full of life again. If you are feeling distant from God, it may be because of a lifeless heart. Don’t waste any time. Go to Him in prayer today and ask Him to begin the process of renewal. What you’ll find is that those areas that are preventing it will become front and center. Deal with them and move on. Don’t linger or look back. Move forward and let God do a new work.
