Reunions are one of the most touching things to watch, especially when a grown child returns to see their parents. The anticipation on the mother’s eyes as they search the horizon for the first sight of their child is almost unbearable. As soon as they appear, feelings of relief and joy are all over their face. When they are finally in their arms the emotion is too much. Someone they have worried about every day during their absence has returned. This is how God feels when one of His children return to Him.
Luke 15:20
So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
Filled with Compassion
The Prodigal’s father never stopped loving or looking for his wayward son. What a perfect picture for our God in heaven when you rebel and go your own way. He keeps His eyes searching the horizon, looking for your return. When He sees you returning, He is filled with compassion, not judgment. God wants you to return from your sinful ways more than anyone else.
Ready for Your Return
If you have somehow stumbled on this devotion and this verse is speaking to you, you need to ask God to forgive your sins and lifestyle that perpetuates it. There isn’t anyone condemning you. There is no sin too great where God isn’t ready to forgive you, but you have to recognize that it’s separating you from Him and repent. He is ready and willing to receive you back. Turn to Him now.
Searching the Horizon
Maybe you are a parent of a wayward adult child, and you are searching the horizon for their return. Heed the example given in this scripture. When you see them return, be filled with compassion, run to them, and give them a big kiss. Don’t create a bunch of hoops to jump through. Be that picture of gratefulness that one who was once lost has been found again.
