There is nothing like cool water on a hot day. It is like a spring of living water to our thirsty soul. It refreshes our muscles and renews our energy. That is what Jesus intended when he had an encounter with a woman who was looking for love in all the wrong places. Jesus wants to be that spring of living water in your life today.
John 4:14, 23-24
Jesus answered her, If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water… Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
Something Missing
The Woman at the Well was looking for something that was missing from her life. She had tried everything and failed. Now she has an encounter with the Messiah, and Jesus points her towards the right path. He showed her that he was the real source of life and that he was a spring of living water that would sustain her. This woman had tried everything to find happiness. She wanted to find it in the love of a man and had failed five times. She was now lonely and an outcast in her society. Jesus offered her a lifeline to a fresh start.
Renewable Source of Life
Everyone is in search of the fountain of youth. They are looking for a renewable source of life that will not only sustain them but bring them joy. Some try to find that in family, others in fitness, still others look for it in financial security, but this life only comes through Jesus Christ. If we will believe in and follow Him, we will be filled with the Holy Spirit, and that life-giving source will be installed in our hearts. The Samaritan woman was looking for life in all the wrong places. She found it in Jesus, and her life was never the same.
Be Filled
If you find your life similar to the woman at the well look to Jesus for the new life you need. Seek his face and worship him. Ask him to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Walk away from the errors of your past and step into the new life he has for you. Don’t try to clean your life up first; you can’t. Let Jesus transform you into a new person. When you do you discover a spring of living water flowing out of you.
