Some families seemed to be blessed beyond the norm. It appears whatever they touch is thriving, and there is a prevalent joy. You’ve probably asked yourself, what is the difference that separates them from other families? Today’s scripture gives us a clue. The home God blesses is full of His presence.
1 Chronicles 13:14
The Ark of God remained with Obed-edom’s family in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his family and all that he had.”
Right Motive, Wrong Method
The Ark was the symbol of God’s presence in the Old Testament. There were very specific rules on how to transport it and who was supposed to do it. When David wanted to bring the Ark to Jerusalem, he set out with all of Israel to make it a grand celebration, but he forgot what God had required. He put the Ark on a wooden cart that was pulled by oxen when it was supposed to be carried on poles by the Levite’s. Along the way, the oxen stumble, and the Ark was going to fall off, and Uzzah reached out to steady it. God struck him dead for touching it. This frustrated David, and he left the Ark at Obed-edom’s house. During those three months, God blessed his household.
Take a Cue
We need to make sure that we approach God in the right manner. We can’t be lax in our approach or careless in our worship. Instead, we need to humble ourselves and come with a reverent attitude. God is holy and deserves to be treated as such. The elders in the book of Revelation fell on their faces and cried “Holy, Holy. Holy is the Lord God Almighty” numbers times. Take a cue from them when you worship.
The Home God Blesses
The Home God blesses is full of His Presence There is power in the presence of God in our lives. It has a profound effect on our household. Obed-edom was blessed in every area because of the presence of the Ark. When we have the presence of the Holy Spirit in our homes, there are great blessings, peace, and joy reign. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will be exalted, and you will experience His powerful presence.
