People look at wisdom in a strange way. They think they need to go on a long journey which entails climbing mountains to get to a wise sage who will disperse the key to life. For the believer, the Lord gives wisdom. All you have to do is ask. It’s a prayer away, and God wants you to seek Him for more than just the meaning of life. He wants you to consult with Him on all of your decisions.
Proverbs 2:6
“For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Wise Choice
When Solomon was a brand new king, the Lord appeared to him in a dream. God told Solomon to ask whatever his heart desired. He could’ve had anything, fame, fortune, and power over the whole world, but he asked for wisdom. God was so pleased with that request that he also gave Solomon fame and fortune. The Lord gives wisdom to all who ask. Out of his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
The Cornerstones
Knowledge and understanding are the two cornerstones of wisdom. Knowledge means having breadth and depth of information, and understanding is knowing how to use that knowledge. There are a lot of intelligent people in the world who lack wisdom. They know almost everything there is to know about a particular subject but have very little ability to use it. They enjoy being an expert but struggle to teach others how to apply it to their lives.
The Lord Gives Wisdom
One of the essential tools you can acquire from God is wisdom. It will take you a lot further than expertise. Ask the Lord for wisdom in your daily decisions and when the big dilemma’s come up. James tells us that if we ask for wisdom, God will give us a double portion, more than we asked. He wants His followers to apply wisdom to their lives and avoid the pitfalls of doing it on their own.
