The movie Lethal Weapon 3, is based in a housing development under construction. Riggs and Murtaugh must find the drug group that was responsible for the murder. The final scene shows cars driving through the houses and many of them falling. What you may not know is that the housing development they used was already condemned because of faulty foundations. We need to build on the strong foundation of Jesus Christ. When we do, we will have unshakeable faith.
Isaiah 28:16
“Therefore the Lord God said: “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will be unshakable.”
Firm Foundation
A cornerstone is the first stone they would lay in building a house. Not only was it a large stone, but the corners formed a perfect ninety-degree angle. From it, they would make all of their walls square. If it was off the house had a shaky foundation. God laid a tested stone that would be the cornerstone of the church. This is a prophecy about the coming Messiah. Zion is another word for Jerusalem, and the stone mentioned is Jesus. The one who believes in him will be unshakeable.
Unshakeable Faith
We need to build on a strong foundation. If we build our faith on the approval of people or in doing good works, it will eventually crumble. We can trust Jesus because he went through the fire and came out unscathed. He endured insults, beatings, and having His hands and feet pierced with nails to prove his love for us. He is unmovable so that we can be unshakeable. He is a sure foundation on which we can build a vibrant faith.
Full of Purpose
So many people are looking for meaning in their life. They want to do something that makes a difference. Building your life on the cornerstone will not only fill you with purpose, but it will group you with like-minded people all trying to accomplish the same mission. When the church builds itself upon Christ, the gates of hell cannot withstand it. Line your life up with the cornerstone, and you will experience unshakeable faith.
