There is a humorous belief in the United States that men never ask for directions. This may be true where you live also but it has risen to epic proportions here. Men will drive around lost for hours instead of humbling themselves and asking someone who knows how to get there. The same can be said for a lot of Christians who are trying to live for Jesus without consulting His Word for direction. John tells us to walk in the truth.
3 John 1:4
“I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.”
Love God and Others
At the end of his life the Apostle John was simple and direct to the church. He emphasized loving one another and living by the truth of God’s Word. That falls in line with what Jesus said were the two greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God” and “Love your neighbor.” It is as simple as it sounds. We can make it more complicated or seek for something much deeper but in the end it really is about loving God, which happens by us being obedient to His Word, and loving others.
Daily Steps
The greatest joy John could get as an Apostle is to see those under his care walking in the truth. Walking always refers to daily life and gives the idea of steps in a certain direction. John knew the power of God’s Word and the benefits of a life obedience. He also knew the challenges that came from outside forces. That’s why when he saw those who were walking in the truth it filled his heart with joy.
Walk in the Truth
Walk in the truth of God’s Word. Fill your heart and mind with it on a daily basis and meditate on those passages which caught your eye. Use Scripture in making your decisions. Measure it up against things that produce questions and doubt. You will find that the truth will never change and it will never fail you.
