They have these new thermometers that can measure your temperature by pointing it right at your forehead. It doesn’t have to touch you at all. It can tell in a matter of seconds whether you are running a fever or not. Do you know that God can look at your heart and tell your level of love for Him? What is the temperature of your heart? Has is grown cold for Jesus, or is it burning hot?
Matthew 24:12-13
“Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”
Increased Lawlessness
Jesus is telling His disciples what the end times are going to look like. There will be increased lawlessness, and the love for Jesus amongst the believers will grow cold. I think that perfectly describes the times that we live in, just as the prophet Isaiah said, “They will call evil good and good evil.” (Is 5) We live in a day where lawlessness is celebrated, and anyone who stands for righteousness is branded evil. It makes it difficult to follow Jesus.
Endure to the End
Jesus did have some encouraging words. Those who endure to the end will be saved. That means two things. First, there will be a significant number of people who will fall away from their faith in that las days. They will give up following Jesus and go and do their own thing. This is happening as you read this. Millions are falling away because churches have been closed to prevent the spread of the virus, and they’re not coming back. Second, those who endure to the end will be saved. Those who keep the faith will be saved from the tribulation that is to come.
What is the Temperature of Your Heart?
Maybe you are reading this devotion and are just discouraged by what is happening in your life. My encouragement to you is that you can make it through this. Remember, in the end, God wins, and those who have remained steadfast will rule and reign with him. There will be days where it seems hopeless, but God’s Word tells us that He is in control, and He will prevail. Don’t let the temperature of your love grow cold.
