Most of us have a memory of something spectacular happening. Maybe it was an athletic performance or an award given for work you have done. Whatever it was, it is something you won’t too forget. The same can be said of the shepherds who were told about Jesus’ birth. It can be easily described by saying, “Oh, what a night!”
Luke 2:8-11
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Scared Out of Their Minds
These shepherds were minding their sheep when all of a sudden, the Angel of the Lord appears to them, and it goes from being dark and seeing the stars to the place being illuminated by the glory of the Lord. Guys who have been seasoned by the elements by being out in nature and dealing with wild animals are scared out of their minds. The Angel was bringing good news that was going to impact the world. The Christ-child has been born, and they needed to go and see Him. Oh, what a night!
Changed the World
The birth of Christ went unnoticed by most, but it was a night that changed the world. The Angel was bringing good news that would bring great joy to all people. What was the news? The Savior of the world had been born in Bethlehem, and he will take away our sins. A child born in humble circumstances was God in living flesh. For all of those who put their faith in Him, He will make a new creation.
Oh What a Night!
Your life can change in an instant because of that night over two-thousand years ago. All of your past can be forgiven and put away, and a new path laid out for you. Joy can replace sorrow. Peace can remove anxiety. It will be a moment that you will remember for the rest of your life.
