In Medevil times, whenever a king would enter a city or a room, there would be a herald who would announce his coming. People would make way for his vehicle and bow when he entered the room. It was a signal to prepare the people how to act. Before Jesus came, God sent a messenger who would declare the Messiah was coming and prepare the way for Jesus.
Isaiah 40:3, 8
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God… The grass withers, the flower fades, But the Word of our God stands forever.”
A Reed in the Wilderness
God sent John the Baptist to prepare the Israelites for His coming Son. It had been four hundred years since they had heard a word from the Lord. John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus. He pointed out their sin and called them to repent. God will also put people in our lives to prepare the way for Christ to enter your heart.
Water in a Barren Land
The Word of the Lord is powerful and effective in our lives. Think about it. You are reading this devotion on this website because you believe that the Word of God has an impact. Isaiah is prophesying about a person who will come preaching the Word of God to a people who haven’t heard it in a long time, the Jews. John the Baptist came four hundred years after the Word of God went silent. He was preaching in the wilderness to spiritually barren people. The Word of God is a life-giving river that replenishes and restores. It can take the driest of souls and revive them. Fill your soul today.
Prepare the Way
Prepare the way for the Word to come into your life. It is water for a dry, parched land. Remove everything that will impede the Word from getting into you. Be open when God uses someone to speak into your life. Everything else will fade away, but the Word of God will stand forever.
