Christmas time is upon us as I write this devotional, and seasonal songs are floating in and out of my head. A recent one is “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” I am not going to get into a debate whether Santa is good or not, but there is a line in the song which says, “Santa knows who is naughty and nice.” That always reminds me of today’s Scripture. You can’t hide anything. God knows who is naughty and what you have done.
LUKE 12:2
“But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.”
Not Who They Appear to Be
Jesus is talking to his disciples as the masses crowd in around them. He tells them to beware of the Pharisees by telling them that anything that is covered will be revealed. To put it in plain English, the Pharisees weren’t who they portrayed themselves to be. If the disciples adopted their ways, they would be infected with the “leaven,” or sin that they practice. God knows what they are doing, and it will be revealed one day. That is some pretty harsh language regarding the most spiritual people in Israel.
Don’t Be Fooled
Things are not always what they appear to be. My wife and I have had multiple discussions about how people get away with acting like they do. She always asks me, “Don’t other people see this?” I always reply, “People see it but don’t want to get involved by saying anything.” Don’t worry about how others are acting. God will reveal it and deal with it in His own way. Continue to walk in the ways of Jesus and keep your mind focused on the things above.
God Knows Who is Naughty
God knows who is naughty. You can’t hide anything from Him. The great thing is that if you are, He is willing to forgive you. He can restore your heart to the right place and make you new again. Don’t harbor sin or bitter feelings. Take those to Jesus and let His grace do its work. You won’t regret it, and the feelings of guilt will be removed.
