The love of money has destroyed many peoples lives. All throughout the Bible, we are warned about pursuing riches. James tells us instead to be rich in faith. Our faith and trust in God should always be more significant than our bank account. We can’t buy happiness.
James 2:5
“Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?”
Hopeless Pursuit
It seems everyone is in the pursuit of more money. Whether it be a raise from our boss or some business venture that will make us rich, money can consume our lives. We compare ourselves to those who have more while we lie awake at night wondering how we are going to pay the bills we already have. The desire to be rich can take its toll on our lives.
Rich in Faith
Read James words out loud to yourself. “Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom?” First of all, this means that God has his eyes on those who are poor. He hasn’t forgotten us. In fact, He bestows upon us two wonderful blessings. The first blessing is that we are made rich in faith. That faith is a great comfort when things seem uncertain. It bridges the gap between what we know and what is uncertain. It’s standing strong and trusting God when you have nothing else.
Inheritance Coming
We are heirs. We have a great inheritance coming. When we enter the glory of heaven, we will inherit everything that is Christ’s. More than just physical and financial possessions we will be in the presence of the almighty God who knows us personally. We often can be like the prodigal son who demands his wealth here on earth. God wants us to wait patiently, in faith, for the day we will have all that God has to offer. Choose faith.
