Sometimes, you are hiking in one of the national parks in the United States, where everything fades into the background, and the beauty of your surroundings encompasses you. That’s how I felt when I was in Glacier National Park. Its stunning beauty takes your breath away. That is one of the images I get when I try to picture what the shepherds in the field experienced when the Heavenly host appears. They got a glimpse of heaven.
Luke 2:8-11
And in the same region, there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Couldn’t Contain Themselves
What the shepherds felt our in those fields was something that Jesus experienced every day in heaven before He came to earth. The Glory of the Lord is on display every day in heaven. The shepherds got a glimpse of heaven that night. The angels couldn’t contain their enthusiasm as God’s plan of redemption was finally unfolding in Bethlehem. They did what they were created to do, give glory to the Lord. That glory surrounded the shepherds as the announcement that the Messiah had been born. The good news of great joy had arrived, and they needed to go and see Him in the manger.
A Glimpse of Heaven
As you get ready to celebrate our Savior’s birth, don’t forget to bring the good news that gives us great joy. The One who takes away the sin the world has come, and we have been forever changed. Spend some time worshipping Jesus. Rejoice that in that simple town was born the Savior of the world. Give the King of Kings the praise He is due.
