A Thankful Heart
Abounding in thanksgiving. Today is the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. It is a day where we get together with family and friends and celebrate all that God has done for us in the past year. To be honest, most people just gorge on food and watch American football all day with little thought about what God has done for them. We have forgotten what it means to have a thankful heart.
Colossians 2:6-7
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
The Source of Our Thankfulness
Paul wasn’t such a person. With all that he has been through in his missionary journeys (read 2 Corinthians 11:21-29) it would be easy for him to walk around with an entitled attitude. Instead, he shows us that we should be abounding in thankfulness. That thankfulness should come from our salvation and sanctification in Christ. Jesus is continually working in us to build us up. He wants you to have an established faith that can withstand the storms that life tosses at you.
Be a Fountain of Thankfulness
Are you abounding in thanksgiving today? Do you have an attitude of gratitude? That comes from realizing what God has done for you. Walk in his Word and watch as you transform into the image of Jesus. Let Jesus transform you into a fountain of thanksgiving and praise because of the work being done in you. This world may have shortchanged you, but Christ hasn’t. He has redeemed you from an eternity in hell, and now he is doing a new work in your heart. Allow him full access.
