I’ve always subscribed to the truth, “The bigger you are, the harder you fall.” Being someone who is over six feet tall, I can testify to its truthfulness. This guides me when I am deciding to do things like snow skiing. Using the same thinking when it comes to temptation can prevent some long term damage. Be careful that you don’t fall into sin.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
God Will Give You More than You Can Handle
One of the myths of the Bible is that God won’t give you more than you can handle. There is no truth to that because, to be honest, most people can’t handle the stress of daily life, let alone a major trial. He WON’T let you be tempted beyond what you can handle. That is totally different. With temptation, He has given us a way out through calling out to Him and relying upon the Holy Spirit. Jesus was tempted with every temptation we were so He understands.
Starts With Your Attitude
The key to this all is our attitude. If we think we got this under control or we are strong enough to withstand temptation like idolatry or sexual immorality, we ware only fooling ourselves. The fall will be hard and humiliating. The list of famous Christians who had spectacular falls is long and illustrious. Temptation is no respecter of persons. It takes out people from all walks of life.
Be Careful that You Don’t Fall
Through all of this, God is faithful. He is going to protect you and will be there to pick you up when you fall. Look to Him for a way of escape when it rears its ugly head. Don’t succumb to its alluring power. Cry out to Jesus and He will save you. He won’t rescue you from it, but you will be able to endure it.
