Nobody likes a poser. A poser is someone who tries to look the part but isn’t. The church is full of posers, people who claim to know God but act nothing like someone who follows Jesus. They may wear the Christian t-shirt, but they are foul-mouthed and disruptive in their home, school, and workplace. Beware of posers. Paul calls them out and tells them to get in line with God’s word.
Titus 1:16
To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
Walk the Walk
Some people like to veil their lives in a thin facade of Christianity. They go to church, say they believe in God, and profess they are a good person going to heaven, but nothing in their lives points toward Jesus. People are good at talking a good talk but not walking the walk. Paul warns us to beware of posers.
Talk a Good Game
A poser is someone who’s mind is impure, and whose actions are defiled. Everything they do denies the work of Christ in their lives. The rebel against authority and are incapable of doing any useful work. The problem is that they are usually really good at talking a good game. People are impressed with their knowledge and wit.
Give It Time
How do we deal with these posers? We give them time. Eventually, people will come to realize that they are fake. Often the posers vacate the premises before they can be exposed. Be patient and don’t let the frustration get to you. Focus on Jesus, and it will all work itself out.
Keep Your Mind Pure
As a believer keep your mind pure. Fill your heart with the things that will keep it pure. When you see something that is defiled move on, don’t dwell. Keep walking the path that Christ has for you and let him deal with all of the posers.
