Sometimes life deals you a curveball. You get blindsided by a crisis, health issue, or even the loss of someone close. This can have a devastating effect on you and can lead to a pain that doesn’t go away. Jesus offers healing for the brokenhearted. He can take that heart, which is grieving and make it whole again.
Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;”
Bring the Good News
Chapter 61 is another of the Messianic prophecies. It talks about how Jesus going to bring the Gospel while at the same time minister to the brokenhearted, captives, and prisoners. A short reading of the Gospels tells us that this came true. He preached the good news that God had sent him. At the same time, he did heal the brokenhearted. I think of the mother who was burying her son, and Jesus came upon the funeral procession and raised him from the dead. There was also the demon-possessed man whom Jesus cast out a legion of demons and sent them into pigs.
Start a Revolution
Jesus is still healing people and setting them free. People all over the world are finding new life through the Gospel. When they discover that the redemptive power of the Cross can change their life, they are changed. The freedom that comes from their sins being forgiven and the new life that is breathed into them is revolutionary. Jesus can do that in every person’s life.
