Fire can be a powerful tool when it is under control. It’s when it turns into a wildfire that houses can get destroyed and lives harmed. When life gets difficult, it can feel like we are in the midst of the fire, and everything around us is crashing down. Scripture shows us that Jesus is right there with us in the midst of the fire.
Daniel 3:25
“He said, “Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!”
Not One Hair Damaged
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s story is one of the classic Sunday School stories of all time. Friends of Daniel, they resolve not to bow down to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s colossal statue. They are reported, and this makes Nebuchadnezzar furious. For this act of defiance, they are thrown into a fiery pit. Once in their Nebuchadnezzar looks and sees not three people, but four. He calls for them to come out of the fire, and not a hair had been singed, nor did they smell of smoke. Nebuchadnezzar realized that it was their God who was in the midst of the fire with them.
Look to Jesus
Sometimes, when the heat gets turned up in our lives, we wonder where Jesus is. That is a normal response, but we have to realize that we can’t see Him because we are too focused on the fire. Jesus is right there with us. He may not be plucking us out of the fire, but He helps us go through it. The key for us to make sure our eyes are focused on him.
In the Midst of the Fire
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were at peace in the midst of the fire because they knew that Jesus was right there with them. You may feel like the heat is being turned up in your life right now. You can have peace too. Just look to Jesus, and He will settle your heart and show you that He is there.
