It Takes Faith I Daily Walk Devotion

There will be times when you can’t figure out what makes someone happy. Everything you do will fail. This will leave you frustrated and questioning what to do next. That is the way that many Christians feel when they are trying to figure out what pleases God. The writer of Hebrews tells us that it takes faith. Put your faith in Jesus, and not only will God be pleased, but your heart will be content.

‭‭HEBREWS‬ ‭11:6

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

Pleasing God

Some look at this verse and think, “If I can increase my faith, I will please God.” That is not what this is saying. If you are trying to please God by doing good works, it’s not going to happen. Pleasing God happens when you put your faith in Jesus and trust Him with your life. You need to seek Jesus and grow closer to Him, and this is what God rewards. Serving the poor and defending the helpless are honorable, and each Christian should be doing them, but they won’t get you saved or on some honor list. Those who worship at Jesus’ feet and let the Spirit do a work in their hearts are the ones who will be satisfied.

The Right Thing to Do

Mary and Martha are great examples of this principle. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him teach. Martha busied herself in the kitchen, growing frustrated with her sister for not doing the right thing and helping her. When Martha tried to publicly embarrass Mary into helping her, it backfired. Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the right thing to do. There are some valuable lessons you can learn. First, God desires your heart before your hands. Second, God wants your worship. The important work will get done, but when it is time to worship, we need to drop everything.

It Takes Faith

Are you seeking Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus is God’s son? If so, then let the Spirit draw you closer to Jesus. Put your faith in that which will last for eternity. That is what pleases God. Focus on that first and let Jesus order everything else. You will find your heart full of peace.
