The behavior and character of a Christian are vital. How we conduct ourselves with those around us speaks louder than our words. Our witness depends upon it. We are to lead a dignified life full of peace. Being outspoken and argumentative are counterproductive to spreading the Gospel. God desires that app people be saved and how we live our lives can make or break that.
1 Timothy 2:1-7
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Pray For Your Leaders
It’s interesting how Paul starts this section. He tells Timothy, to pray for all people in leadership, especially those in high positions. Notice he doesn’t say “If we agree with them.” We can’t let our opinion of a political leader or boss affect our prayer life. We pray for them because we want them to make the right decisions. This will allow us to live the dignified life. When a country or workplace is in chaos, it makes it difficult for us to have peace in our lives.
Peace In Our Lives
God desires that we lead peaceful and quiet lives. These define a dignified life. If we are at odds with our neighbors or coworkers, this diminishes our witness. They won’t want to hear how Jesus gave his life as a ransom for us. They will think “If all Christians are like this I don’t want any part of it.” We need to learn how to live with being offended by others and not retaliating. We need to look for ways to serve those who are difficult to love. How do you swallow your pride? Only through prayer that brings peace.
That All May Be Saved
When others see the peace and dignity in our lives they want to be around it and know how to obtain it. This is the byproduct of us living a dignified life. That type of behavior is attractive to those seeking Christ. The end goal is always that all may be saved. God’s desire is to be reconciled to his creation. Lead a dignified life so that your neighbors and coworkers will come to know Christ.
