My Hope Is In You I Daily Walk Devotion

My Hope Is In You is a song by Aaron Shust. It talks about putting our hope in Jesus when the storms of life come. It’s often the storms of life that show us that what we have put our hope in won’t sustain us. The storms of life shake everything from us that isn’t real. David shows us that when we put our hope in Jesus, he will rescue us.

Psalms 39:7-8

Now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you. Rescue me from all my transgressions; do not make me the taunt of fools.

What Are You Putting Your Trust In?

We can put our hope in a lot of places. We can put our hope in money, thinking if we get enough of it we will okay. We can put our faith in people, thinking that if we have lots of friends, then we will be happy. Both of these may prove true for a short period of time, but eventually, we learn that they are something to enjoy but not to put all of our trust in. Jesus is the only one we can put our hope in and not be disappointed.

Take Responsibility

King David has apparently learned the hard way who to trust. He also understands his responsibility for his situation. He asks God to rescue him from his transgressions. This is a fancy word for our sins. David knows that he is a sinful person and the last person he can trust is himself. He wants forgiveness from those sins and to be rescued from the consequences of them. That’s not a selfish prayer to pray. Sometimes God does it, and sometimes he doesn’t.

Don’t Delay Any Longer

The psalmist is not asking why he is waiting. He is admitting that he has delayed too long in seeking restoration from his sins. He has delayed putting all of his hope in God. He has done this because of past failures. He has put his trust in other people and idols, and they all have fallen short. That is why he is asking to be rescued from his transgressions. He realizes his sins and his need to be saved from them.

Well Placed Hope

We need to be very careful that we don’t put our hope in anything else except Jesus Christ. He is our rock and our fortress where we can find shelter. He is the one who removes the sin that brings spiritual death. He instills life into our desperate hearts. Put your hope in him today.
