One of the defining themes of the church needs to be unity. That unity is a group of people who have one heart going one way. God brings unity in the church through his Holy Spirit. He can take a motley group of people give them one hear one way. The church is this beautiful place where everyone is welcome and has to fulfill.
Jeremiah 32:38-39
“They shall be My people, and I will be their God; then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them.”
Infinite Love and Mercy
God so desperately desires to be united with his people, Israel. He did so much to make that happen, but Israel still turned their backs on him. Instead, they chose to chase after other idols. This brought on a period of exile from the promised land. But God, in his infinite love and mercy, decided to bring them back. He would put His Spirit in them and they would one heart one way.
Bring Us Closer
If you look at the words in Jeremiah, you see his heart for us. God wants to unite us with one heart and put us on one path. He doesn’t want us to get sidetracked as Israel did. He wants us to walk in a relationship with him that will benefit not only us but our children as well. We are to fear him. This kind of fear is one of reverence and awe. Understand that you serve a God who is passionately in love with you and works to be as close to you as possible. He doesn’t sit back and wait for us to do everything, he cares for us. He wants to give us one heart and put on his path.
