People want to know the right way to go. We don’t like confusion or indecision. People often pray “God, show us the way.” These prayers can be for directions or for making the right decisions. It is good to seek counsel for the direction of our life. The real question is whether we are going to listen and then follow it. Israel sought their direction with the Lord and then didn’t follow it.
Jeremiah 42:3
“that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do.”
At a Crossroads?
Ever been at a crossroads and you didn’t know which way to go? That’s where Israel found itself. Babylon was surrounding Jerusalem, and the numbers were dwindling to oppose them. Johanan asked Jeremiah to seek the Lord as to what Israel should do. Jeremiah sought the Lord for ten days and came back and told him that if they remained in the land, God would build them up. They didn’t have to fear Babylon because God would take care of them. What a wonderful word of encouragement. Remain and be built up.
Which Path are You On?
Unfortunately, Israel didn’t obey and eventually went into captivity. The lesson to be learned here is that when we seek the Lord, we need to be faithful to follow him. He will direct our steps and show us the way to go, but we have to be willing to wait for it to happen. God will show you the way, and he will build you up, the real question is if you are following him or your own path.
