One of the best surprises we can get is when we buy something, and we get more than we expected. That is especially true when we have been disappointed so many times. You will never be disappointed with following Jesus. He is the gift that keeps giving. It starts with our redemption and then continues with His love and provision.
Matthew 13:12
“For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.”
Teaching with Parables
Jesus had been speaking in parables to the crowds. The disciples came to him and asked why? He responded that some get Me, and some don’t. Parables helped those whose hearts were open to Jesus but were just nice stories to those whose hearts were closed. Those whose hearts were drawn towards Him will get more as they follow Him, but to those who didn’t respond, even what they had would be taken away.
The Gift that Keeps Giving
Jesus is the gift that keeps giving. If you have received the gift of salvation through faith, then you are given the gift of the Holy Spirit, which in turn bears fruit. Over time you are repeatedly given grace and mercy when you stumble into sin. Spiritual maturity is produced as we walk with Christ daily. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “For whoever has, to him more shall be given.”
Don’t Shortchange Yourself
So many Christians are just looking for a ticket to heaven. They want to make sure their direction is upward towards the clouds and not downward towards hell. We shortchange ourselves when we think like this because God has much more for us. His abundance of love, joy, and peace is something we can have. Walk in the abundance of God’s grace and see what comes of it.
