Freedom is a big deal. Countries will go to war to preserve their independence, and millions of people have died to ensure that generations after them would live free from the tyranny of oppressive governments. Jesus promises freedom to those who are really his disciples. He tells them that the truth will set you free.
John 8:31-32
“Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

We can be a prisoner to the thoughts in our mind. We can be held captive by a world belief that says Jesus isn’t God. Both of those can trap a person and leave them with the feeling that there is no way out. There is a path to freedom that Christ lays out that if we follow we will be set free by the truth.
Do You Believe?
Jesus was talking to those who believed in him. They believed that he was the Son of God, the Messiah that was promised. Belief is more than just a thought. It is a way of thinking that directs our actions. Many people say they believe in Jesus, but it does nothing to change the way that we live. For our relationship with God to work, we have to believe. He has to be more than a ticket to heaven.
Continue In His Word
We show our belief in Jesus by continuing in His words. Continuing is another way of saying obedience. Disciples are people who follow what their leader tells them. As you keep in His words, the truth will set you free. That freedom is from the doubt and discouragement that the world heaps upon you. Freedom comes as we immerse ourselves more and more into the word. We are no longer deceived by empty philosophy but empowered by the truth. Walk in the freedom that God has for you today.
