Children all over the world dream of being like their heroes. That could be a sports star like Ronaldo or Messi or an entertainer like Adele. They buy t-shirts with their image on the front, watch every performance, and discuss endlessly with their friends how great they are. Whoever it is, they will try to mimic every move the person makes. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to walk in HIs footsteps. We may not buy the t-shirts but He beckons us to walk this way.
Matthew 28:19
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
The Church’s Mission
This verse is known as the “Great Commission” of the church. It is Jesus telling the Disciples what they are to focus on after He leaves them. The mission of the church is to make disciples or followers of Jesus. That process starts with evangelism, followed by baptism, and then teaching them to have the knowledge and guidance to live for Him each day. It is a long process that we can’t take shortcuts on. You have to invest in those who have are new believers. Verse twenty goes on to say, “teach them in all the ways.”
Find the Right Guide
You are a disciple of Jesus Christ (if you have given your heart to Him). That means you walk in His footsteps and try to emulate His life. Guidance for that is given in the Bible and from Bible-teaching pastors and teachers who are concerned with your spiritual health. A strong Scriptural foundation is essential to every believer. Be wary of those who teach something else like prosperity or psychology. They sound tantalizing, but neither is based on the Bible.
Walk This Way
It’s not the outward appearances that show people that we are disciples of Jesus Christ. It is the inward character. Wearing a Christian t-shirt or Cross necklace can be a fantastic way to express our faith, but it’s not an indication of our faith. We show that through our daily walk. How we talk and treat others is often the best way to show your faith.
