Building a house is a long and involved process where I live. It usually takes you 3-5 years from plans to finishing construction. You have to deal with the government, architect, and contractor to have your dream home completed. Many people don’t even try. They buy a house already built. God asked His people, “What kind of house will you build me?”
ACTS 7:48-49
“However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says: ‘HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?’ says the Lord,’ OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REPOSE?”
Much Bigger Than You Think
The translation above is the NASB. It capitalizes the word of Jesus. I like the emphasis it places and makes it jump out of your Bible. Here we see God talking about how heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool. No temple or church can be built big enough to house the Lord. He is much bigger than anything human hands can build. I love that Steven reminds us that God is bigger than anything we can imagine.
How Big is Too Big?
The temptation of every Christian is to reduce God to a size they are comfortable. Anything bigger and it worries us. God’s throne is located in heaven because it is the only place that can contain its glory. If you limit your faith to the size you can handle, God will rock your world whenever He wants to do a work. He wants to stretch your faith and enlarge your picture of Him.
What Kind of House Will You Build?
You need to ask God to increase your picture of Him. When you have a small image of God, you will not trust Him for the things out of your control. The larger you picture God, the more you will trust Him for great things. Keep the picture of heaven being His throne and earth being His footstool in the back of your mind. You will find that there will be more peace in your heart when you have that perspective. God is bigger than any situation in your life.
