A Word Wisely Spoken I Daily Walk Devotion

There is too much noise in the world today. Everyone has an opinion and a criticism of someone else. In an effort to be heard we have to be louder and more controversial than the previous person. Social media has made it too easy to pounce on people you don’t agree with. It is rare when someone comes in and speaks with wisdom and even more unusual when the timing is right. A word wisely spoken is more valuable than silver or gold.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:11

“A word spoken at the right time is like gold apples in silver settings.”

The writer of this Proverb drops some much-needed wisdom on the world today. With words being thrown around carelessly to provoke or injure, the person who speaks wisdom a the right time is a rarity. Gold apples in silver settings is a figure of speech to indicate something that is not only rare but valuable. Only the rich could have a decoration like gold apples in their home, and even then it wasn’t something you saw every day.

The Power to Heal

The same can be said for the person who says the right thing at the right time. Those words have the power to heal and help those who hear them. As soon as the person hears them, it ministers to the soul. Their spirit is ministered to, and hope is restored. In a culture where people shout above each other, words wisely spoken can be like salve to an open wound.

Build Others Up

The next time you feel the need to speak your mind ask yourself if what you have to say has any value. Strive to be the one who builds others up instead of tearing them down. Be slow to speak and slow to anger. Listen to what is going on and prayerfully consider if a response is necessary and how it can create value for those who hear it. Sometimes the best thing to be said is nothing at all.
