Can you be trusted? Trust is a person’s highest capital. If you can be trusted, you will be given significant responsibility. If you can’t then you will wallow in frustration of having to complete mundane tasks. Trust is also extended to our words. Are you honest? If you tell little white lies, you will be dishonest on the significant issues. We build trust with people by being responsible and reliable. Over time that trust will open doors to bigger things.
Luke 16:10
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
Can You Be Trusted?
We often focus on the first part of this verse: “He who can be trusted with a little will be trusted with much.” and for a good reason. The more you can be trusted the more responsibility you are given. It is also vital that we can be trusted in what we say. Our dishonesty can destroy trust with people in a heartbeat. It’s a matter of integrity.
Build Up or Break Down
If you can’t be trusted the people around you won’t work with you. Are you someone who can be trusted with the small things? Do you tell little white lies when it doesn’t matter? Both of these build trust with those around us. Those who can be trusted with little things will be entrusted with more. Those who lie when it doesn’t matter will lie with the big things. We have a choice with our actions and our words to build trust or break it down.
Start Small
What do you do when no one is looking? Are cutting corners and skimming off the top common practices for you? If so repent and make reparations and start fresh. Be honest with yourself and do your work unto the Lord. Start small. Commit to doing what you said you would do. If you have blown it take responsibility for it, don’t lie. Over time you will build a reputation as someone who can be trusted.
