As I type this, it is just a few hours before the new year. Most of you have already ushered in 2021, but since I live on the West Coast of the United States, we are one of the last ones to see the calendar’s turning. There is always optimism at the beginning of a new year, and rightfully so. Part of that optimism comes from the fact that Jesus will be with us through whatever happens. He was here from the beginning.
John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Important to Start
As the Apostle John starts his Gospel, he lays down some vital theology. Jesus is God’s revelation to humanity, which is why John calls Him the Word. Jesus was there from the beginning with God because He is God. He didn’t just appear when Mary gave birth to him. It is essential to have the mindset that Jesus was there from the beginning and part of what we call the Trinity. That consists of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Time for a Fresh Start
Jesus is the author of new beginnings. Maybe you are reading this devotional because you want to start 2021 fresh by getting into God’s Word. Can I suggest that you start with Jesus? It doesn’t matter what is in your past. He can give you a new beginning. He is the only one who can clean your life up because His death on the cross is the only cure for sin. But that’s not all. He also makes your heart new by putting the Holy Spirit inside and filling it with His love.
From the Beginning
All of us are ready for things to change in our world and our lives. If you decide to get that fresh start with Jesus, you won’t regret it. You will find more life than you can imagine. He instills hope that overcomes doubt and peace that steadies us in the storms. Take the step today for that new beginning.
