There are several times in the Bible, especially the Old Testament, where God has to remind us humans who created everything. He had to tell Job that He was the Giver of Life. Here he reminds Moses. It seems we too have to be reminded of this when we are full of excuses. Moses didn’t want to go and talk to Pharoah. God told him that He is the one who gives speech and makes people mute.
Exodus 4:11
The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
Out of the Desert
Moses had a problem; he had a hard time speaking to other people, he stuttered. Now God was calling him out of the desert to lead the people of Israel to the Promised Land. He was up for that. What he feared was having to speak to the people and go in front of Pharaoh. Moses didn’t want to go. Talking in front of people is one of the biggest fears people possess. They break out in a sweat and fumble over their words. God can help us just as he helped Moses.
Through Our Weaknesses
God likes to use our weaknesses to do amazing things. He took a nomad, who was out in the desert and made him the leader of the Jews. Moses didn’t want to go because of his fear of people (something God cured later on). He told God he wouldn’t go. Even after turning his staff into a snake and his hand leprous Moses wouldn’t allow God to use him. God had to remind him who gave the power to speak, to hear, and see. Don’t let your fears force you to miss out on what God wants to do. Moses stepped forward in faith and became one of the most beloved leaders in Israel history.
Giver of Life
God is the Giver of Life. In Him, we have all the resources to accomplish what he calls us to do. Satan will try to discourage us and fill us full of doubt. In those times we need to remind ourselves that God often chooses the foolish to confound the wise. He likes to show his strength through our weaknesses and show His glory through His saints. Trust Him today.
