The life of a disciple of Jesus Christ is a daily walk that includes many struggles and battles. Foremost amongst those battles is the one with temptation. Peter shows us today that God rescues us from temptation. Just like He rescued Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah, Jesus can deliver you. If you are losing the struggle, look to Jesus to pull you out.
2 Peter 2:9
“then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,”
Provide a Way Out
The biggest struggle for a Christian will always be temptation. Giving into sin when our flesh longs for it is difficult to overcome. Fortunately, Jesus can deliver you. He provides a way out if we will ask. Unfortunately, most Christians are too busy lusting after the temptation to do anything about it. They can’t take their eyes off long enough to realize the danger or destruction it might bring. If you are struggling with recurrent sin, you need to know that there is a way out.
God Deals with the Unrighteous
On the other hand, God has a way of keeping the unrighteous under His hand of punishment. On the outside, it may seem like they are succeeding or getting away with it, but underneath it, all God is dealing with it. You will never see the conviction and torment they go through, but it is real. If you ever hear the testimony of someone who has come to Christ after a life of sin, they will tell you they couldn’t get away from their demons. So don’t worry about anyone else except yourself because God has got it under control.
Jesus Can Deliver You
How do you break free from the chains of sin and temptation? The first step is to recognize you have a problem. Too many Christians have rationalized their actions for so long they don’t even see it as sin. You have to see it as sin and then repent of it. After repentance, you need to fill your heart and mind with the Word of God, teachings, music, and fellowship to fill that void. This will give you the needed ammunition to fight off temptation. Finally, I would suggest repeated fasting. This will help you in the battle against your flesh. Jesus can deliver you.
