Look Under the Hood I Daily Walk Devotion

Have you ever looked under the hood of a car? Whenever I look under the hood I get confused. I don’t know much about cars, especially the engine. I do have a friend who is really good at fixing them. He replaced the radiator in my truck in twenty minutes. It would’ve taken me hours. To him, it was no big deal, just a couple of bolts. In reality it multiple bolts and hoses but because of his expertise and experience, he made it look simple. I appreciate his willingness to help me out in areas where I know very little.

Sometimes we can get confused about the Bible. We look under the hood and get confused. We know we are saved and going to heaven but aren’t sure of how everything works. Someone needs to show us. That’s what the Apostle Paul does today. He shows us everything that happened when Jesus died on the cross.

Colossians 2:12-14

having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Powerful Work

There are some powerful things that happen to us when we accept Jesus as our Savior. We are buried with him and then raised through faith. We were dead in our sin, but God made us alive and forgave all of our sins. He canceled all the debt that sin brought with it by nailing it to the cross. There’s a lot happening when we look under the hood of our salvation.

New Creations

Let’s take a close look at what goes on. We were buried. That means the old sinful life was crucified and we are new creations. We are raised to new life by the powerful work of God in our hearts. Before that we part of the walking dead. Sin has a price tag we can’t pay, and that ultimate cost is eternal death. Fortunately, God forgives our sins and cancels the debt. It was paid in full when Jesus was nailed to the tree. Don’t ever discount the work of salvation in a person’s life. There is a lot that goes on under the hood when we give our lives to Christ. That’s why heaven rejoices when those who are lost are found.
