It was a busy time after the resurrection. Jesus was seen by more than five hundred people. He did spend a good amount of time with the Disciples. To equip them for the job ahead they were sent in the power of the Spirit. This was his designated group to spread the Gospel, and they would need the Holy Spirit to accomplish it.
John 20:21-23
“Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Filled With the Spirit
When Jesus visited the disciples after his resurrection and before his ascension into heaven, he breathed on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. This wasn’t the power of the Spirit mentioned in Acts 2, that was the baptism, here they were filled with the Spirit. This gave them the ability to walk daily with him from this point on. He also gave them their marching orders. This is important because in the confusion and uncertainty the cross caused in the disciples lives he had to reiterate what they were supposed to do. They were sent in the power of the Spirit to reach the world.
Breathe on Me
Being filled with the Spirit is key to our daily Walk. The Spirit gives us the strength to make it through the day; He also guides us as we make decisions. Living a Spirit Filled life is the Christians calling. Living without the Spirit is futile. When we try to live under our power, we end up frustrated. When we walk in the Spirit, we are filled with everything necessary to do the will of our heavenly father. We are sent in the power of the Spirit to tell people about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Are you filled with the Spirit? Ask him right now fill you up. You are being sent into the world in the power of the Holy Spirit.
