What Matters Most I Daily Walk Devotion

It is said that you can tell a person’s priorities by looking at their bank account. That will tell you where they spend their time and energy. In essence, it shows you what matters most. Scripture tells us what matters most to Jesus. He wants you to be rich in His grace and mercy.

‭‭2 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭8:9

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”

No Possessions

It is said that Jesus was the poorest man to walk the earth. He had no possessions or place to lay His head. Philippians 2:7 says, “He emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant.” He went from having it all to giving up everything and having nothing. This was so that you, in your poverty, could be made rich in Him. This is a picture of the grace that has been extended to you

Spiritually Poor

Some try to take this verse too literally. They claim that they were poor, but Jesus has plans to make them rich. The poverty and riches talked about here are spiritual. You were dead in your trespasses before Jesus saved you and had no way of getting yourself out. That is poor. When you experienced His grace, you became rich in His mercy and love.

What Matters Most

Do you consider yourself rich in the love and mercy of Jesus? Are you more focused on getting rich in your bank account? If you pursue that, you will end up empty at the end because you can’t take it with you. Instead, revel in the abundant mercy and grace that is afforded to you by the one who gave it all up. Rest easy in the thought that you are rich in the areas that matter most to the Lord.
