A Righteous Branch

A Righteous Branch I Daily Walk Devotion

Have you ever looked at a website like ancestry.com or had your DNA tested at a place like 23 & Me? It’s fascinating to see your heritage on paper. Most of these sites use a tree to show your family. There is a reason for that. The tree has been used for centuries to show how families have grown and spread apart over time. God promised David a righteous branch would come out of him that would save the world.

Jer 33:14-16

Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved

A Savior has Come

The prophet Jeremiah prophesied that a righteous branch would come out of the line of David who would bring salvation. God is telling his people that the days are coming where he will fulfill his promise that he gave to David. One day that branch will come and rule with justice and righteousness, but first, he must come as a servant.

The Real Gift

As Christmas time we focus on the birth of Jesus, but it inevitably points to the cross. Jesus was sent so that he could be the perfect sacrifice to appease the wrath of God. It was by his righteousness that he was deemed capable of being the Lamb without spot or blemish who would lay down his life in place of ours. That is the real gift of this holiday.

Recognize Your Need

One day Jesus will come back, and he will rule from Jerusalem with justice and righteousness. All the nations of the earth will submit themselves under him, and there will be peace in the world for one thousand years. That is all available to us if we recognize that we are sinners in need of a savior. When we confess our sins and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we will be saved.
