I am in the midst of a teaching break from my church. It’s a period of time I take a couple of times of year to rest, sharpen my skills, and prepare for the next series I’m teaching. It is a season of refreshing for me and those I teach. All of us can go through the same thing. You may not teach others, but there comes a time when we need to get back on track with God and make things right.
Acts 3:19-20
“Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah.”
Straight to the Point
The Apostle Peter always spoke in a direct manner to those who he was teaching. The lame man at the gate of the temple has just been healed through him, and the people who witnessed it were rushing to hear him speak. He gets to the point and tells them they need to repent of their sins and turn back to God. If they do this, there will be a season of refreshing that comes upon them from the Lord.
Need to be Refreshed?
Many of us need some refreshment for the simple reason that we have been doing the same thing over and over, and the purpose of doing that has lost its meaning. We can go to church every time it is open, but if we forget who we came to worship, it becomes routine. That is true for many other things in our lives as well. The problem is that when we get into a rut, we start to lose interest and pretty soon after we stop altogether.
Season of Refreshing
Enter into a season of refreshing right now. Go before Jesus and ask Him to forgive your sins. You know what they are. Be specific. Then ask for the Holy Spirit to refill your heart and refocus your eyes on what’s important. When you do this, you will discover that a renewed sense of life and purpose will flow in your heart and mind. Do it today.
