You need to set the example for others to follow. Whether they are your children or younger workers at your job, you need to set the example for them to follow. They have questions and are looking for good examples to model their lives after. Your actions could show the way for someone who has been feeling lost.
1 Corinthians 11:1-2
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.
Follow Me
Paul’s instruction was simple: “Follow me as I follow Christ.” He was confident in his walk with the Lord to recommend that others follow his example. Imitation is one of the best ways to learn. When a young boy wants to be a professional athlete, he imitates his favorite player. Girls will often follow the fashion of their favorite music or movie star. We all have imitated someone. It started with our parents, then moved to teachers, and finally role models.
Raise Up Leaders
Paul was one of the best role models we have in scripture. He was motivated and focused on the work God gave him, he stood for the truth, but his greatest legacy is the churches he started and the leaders he raised up. He would plant a church and live there for a while while he discipled the new believers. From that group, he would raise up Elders to lead the church when he was gone. He also took people like Timothy and Titus on his long missionary journeys, where he trained them to become pastors. All of these necessitated an example that people would look to follow. Paul lived by this and understood his responsibility.
Set the Example
We need to be people that new believers can imitate. As we grow in our faith, we should be pouring into those who need it. We may never tell someone to follow our example, but that doesn’t mean impressionable people aren’t watching. Live in such a way that people will want to imitate your example.
